D-Shape eyeglass pads have been used in eye glasses for decades and are found in virtually all types of glasses frames ranging from trendy to conservative styles. "D" shaped nosepads, of course, resemble the letter "D" and provide excellent weight distribution of the eyeglass frame over the spectacle frame wearer's nasal area. The slightly tapered side of the nose pad enables the pad to gently reach into the nasal area for a contoured and snug fit.
Nose pads for glasses and nose pads for sunglasses that are "D"-Shaped are not symmetrical in shape, and therefore a left nosepad is not interchangeable with a right nose pad. Nose pads for metal frames are frequently of the "D" shaped style; whereas, eyeglasses without nose pads are often modified to accept D-shape nosepads by eyeglass repair technicians.
Replacement D-shaped glasses nose pads are available in a variety of materials including soft silicone, pvc (soft-firm), and ultra-thin super-light polycarbonate (PC). Mounting arms for D-pads, which are also referred to as nose pad guard arms, are typically of the screw-on or push-on style. Slide-on and slide-in eyeglasses nose pads are not common for "D" shaped nose pads. Other common industry names for screw-on are screw-in or screw-base, while names equivalent to push-on nose pads are push base, snap-in, snap-on, and push-in.
"D" shaped nose pieces and glasses nose pads are available in popular materials including soft silicone and soft firm PVC. Popular sizes include: 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, and 19mm.
