Soft-Wing Unifit Nose Pads
Softwing (Soft-wing) / Unifit Nose Pads: Softwing eyeglass nose pads, which are also commonly called "unifit nose pads", are single piece nosepads that provide the greatest area of surface contact between the nose pad and the eyeglass wearer's skin as compared to the popular dual nosepads varieties. The weight of the glasses is distributed along the top "bridge" surface of the nose in addition to the inset nasal areas of the wearer. This large contact area optimally distributes the weight of the glasses over the entire nasal bridge area resulting in less weight over any one contact point.
Soft silicone unifit nose pads or the firmer high density softwing nose pads are typically composed of only silicone or silicone formed over an underlying firmer material such as plastic or metal. In the latter case, since the metal inner core is visible through the silicone nosepad, a choice of gold or silver colored metal is normally available so that the soft-wing nosepad blends in with the color of the eyeglass or sunglass frame. Materials such as vinyl are also used in the manufacturer of soft wing nosepads.
Due to the excellent conformity of the nose pad to the underlying facial skin area, softwing nose pads are very similar to bridge strap nose pads which are commonly called bridge nose pads or strap bridge nose pads.
Unifit bridge nose pads are often mounted to eyeglass optical frames by means of small nosepad screws.
Common soft-wing nose pad sizes include: 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 21mm.
